Canine ear infections are not uncommon. There can be outer ear or inner ear problems. Dogs with narrow ear canals can have more problems than those with larger canals. All ear problems have a cause and these can be successfully resolved by using a system of natural dogs health care.
Dogs with floppy ears also tend to get more ear problems. This is probably due to the ear flap closing off the ear to circulating and fresh air, encouraging the unnatural breeding of pathogens, such as bacteria, ear mites and the like.
Another cause can be from a foreign object. Allergies can also be responsible as can systemic diseases. However, all ear infections come down to a common cause – the dog’s immune system is low or suppressed. When a dog has a strong immune system, pathogens cannot gain a hold, which means infections don’t happen.
Canine ear infections can be quite painful. Initially your dog may simply scratch or paw at his ears. This can then develop into whining with the scratching. Your dog may shake his head a lot. Or he may scratch his head against furniture or trees.
Not everyone tolerates pain well, and this is no different with dogs. Some dogs are so intolerant of pain, they may become uncharacteristically aggressive. When you try to look into the ear, you may get bitten.
If you can look into the ear, you will often see that it is red and swollen. There may be a discharge and/or an unpleasant odour. This can be isolated to just one ear, or in both ears.
Untreated, ear infections can develop into some hearing loss.
Veterinary diagnosis of the problem can be with an otoscope, a blood test and perhaps cultures. Veterinary treatment is normally with anti-fungal, antibiotics and steroids. Surgery is often recommended in severe cases.
However, veterinary drugs are all liver toxic. They are also immuno suppressant. This means, that although the condition may appear to improve, your dog’s overall health has declined. So you can expect more problems in the not too distant future.
There are other, more effective ways of preventing and curing canine ear infections. Any good natural dogs health care system include feeding your dog a quality, natural diet which will improve his immune system. It also includes the use of natural therapies, such as homeopathy. Homeopathy works by raising the immune system, back to its former glory.
